AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects communication, behavior, and social interactions. It is characterized by a range of symptoms and abilities, leading to the term "spectrum," which recognizes the wide variety of challenges and strengths.

Symptoms of ASD can vary widely but typically include:

  • Social Communication Challenges:

    • Difficulty understanding social cues and body language.

    • Challenges in initiating or maintaining conversations.

    • Limited eye contact or unusual social responses.

  • Repetitive Behaviors:

    • Engaging in repetitive movements, such as hand-flapping or rocking.

    • Insistence on routines or sameness; distress at changes in environment or routine.

  • Intense Interests:

    • Strong focus on specific topics or activities, sometimes to the exclusion of others.

    • In-depth knowledge about particular subjects.

  • Sensory Sensitivities:

    • Over- or under-reactivity to sensory input, such as lights, sounds, textures, or tastes.
